Streaming data consumption

What is the data traffic generated by video streaming of EYE-02 or EyeSee camera?

Data traffic generated by video streaming is higher on 3G version of EYE-02 and EyeSee than on its 2G versions. 3G versions of EYE-02 and EyeSee offer higher quality of video stream and that is why the data traffic is higher too. On EYE-02 3G and EyeSee 3G this traffic can be about 16MB for 15 minutes of video streaming. Our tests showed that data traffic on EYE-02 2G and EyeSee 2G is between 2MB and 4MB for 15 minutes of video streaming.

EYE-02 streaming 3G vs 2G data comparison

3G vs 2G data comparison

Data traffic depends on

  • how the scene moves: static scene means smaller amount of data than scene which changes,
  • settings of EDGE by network provider (applies to 2G cameras only),
  • signal of camera,
  • resolution of snapshot: when you select resolution 160*120px the video streaming runs in resolution 160*120px, when you select resolution of snapshot 320*240px or 640*480px then video streaming runs in resolution 320*240px,
  • sharpness of snapshot: when you select higher sharpness the volume of data will increase.

Data volume does not depend on selected framerate. Camera dynamically adjusts to the speed at which it sends out (uploads) data. When its buffer gets full it will reduce the quality of picture automatically so that stream is fluent.

EYE-02 and EyeSee are mobile security cameras. Although customers like video streaming, the cameras are not primarily designed for permanent streaming. When customers wish to have good overview about current situation they can activate periodical reports e.g. every 15 minutes. Camera will send these reports to the Cloud storage and you will have all pictures at hand in smartphone. To configure periodical reports connect to the camera in www.jablotool.com and select Reporting.
