Still, its plastic body provides basic water resistance. In order to use the camera outdoor effectively you will need to adjust its detectors. You will probably also need to use outdoor cover to protect the camera against rough weather. You may also use external infra red lamp for night view or use an external PIR detector.

Adjusting detectors for outdoor use

First you should adjust some of camera detectors for outdoor use. The motion-in-picture detector (MIP) can make false alarms because it can be activated e.g. by movement of trees, animals- especially insect, or by reflection of sun from water or glass. We recommend you to mask out such areas so that the detector ignores them and makes no false alarms. The passive infra red detector (PIR) registers changes of temperature and it can make false alarms e.g. when sun suddenly appears from behind the clouds. Install your camera so that it does not point directly to the sun. Please note that the NOISE detector, GBS glass break detector and DOOR opening detector will not work outdoor because changes of pressure caused by wind or sounds from nature would make false alarms, so switch those OFF. We also recommend decreasing the sensitivity of the TILT and TOUCH detectors, especially when your camera is attached e.g. to a column that can sway in the wind. However, this means less sensitive detection of illegal manipulation. Configure all camera detectors via internet – connect to your camera via JabloTool web portal www.jablotool.com and choose Settings, Advanced and then Detectors.

Protecting camera against weather conditions
If you use the camera outdoor where it is not permanently exposed to rain, snow or excessive changes of temperature you may use it without outdoor cover (Picture 1). If you use your camera in open space with regular strong wind, heavy rain or hot sunshine we recommend using the EYE-02 with outdoor cover (Picture 2).

(Picture 1) Outdoor EYE-02 EyeSee installation

(Picture 2) Outodoor cover open, Outodoor cover stand leg

Planning the installation

Before the installation you will decide if you want to use also the front glass panel of the outdoor cover (its use is optional). We generally do not recommend using the front glass panel because it will limit some camera functions. Our experience shows that outdoor cover even without front glass panel already provides sufficient protection of the camera. However, the front glass will protect your camera from heavy rain and snow.

Outdoor cover without front glass panel

Detectors
When you place the camera into recommended position the outdoor cover will not limit the function of camera detectors. We recommend using the external IR lamp also when you use outdoor cover without front glass panel. This will provide better quality of snapshots taken at night (see Picture 3).

Night view
You can also take snapshots at night by using built-in infra red lamp, its reach is 6 meters. When you do not use front glass panel place the camera into recommended position, follow chapter Mounting EYE-02 camera into outdoor cover. Camera will be protected against usual climatic conditions and the outdoor cover will not reflect the rays of the internal IR lamp back into the camera. Chapter Mounting EYE-02 camera into outdoor cover provides more information about such adjustment.
For more information about taking snapshots at night by EYE-02 camera see application note Infrared Illumination.

(Picture 3) Outdoor Cover with External IR installation

Outdoor cover with front glass panel

Front glass panel will limit the function of PIR detectors and you will not be able to take snapshots at night by using the infrared lamp built in the camera.

PIR detector
PIR cannot register changes of temperature via the glass panel. If you use default settings of camera profiles HOME, GARAGE or CARE then camera will not be able to detect any motion. Why? Camera has two motion detectors – the PIR and MIP. In these profiles the MIP is activated by the PIR detector. Because the PIR does not work via glass it will not activate the MIP detector and camera will not register motion.
When you need to use the front glass panel and also the PIR detector then we recommend using external PIR detector JA-88P from the OASiS system manufactured by Jablotron. This detector is suitable also for outdoor use.
You can use EYE-02 also with a wide range of other wireless peripherals. You will find more information in the support topic Wireless peripherals.

Night view
When you use the front glass panel and you want take snapshots at night you cannot use the internal IR lamp of camera. Glass of the panel would reflect the rays back into the camera (Picture 4). Instead you should use external IR lamp for taking snapshots at night (Picture 5).

<img alt="(Picture 5) Outdoor Cover with front glass and External illumination"src="/help/wp-content/uploads/img/outdoor-cover-with-external-ir.jpg">

(Picture 4) Outdoor Cover with glass and Internal infrared illumination

(Picture 5) Outdoor Cover with glass and External infrared illumination

Follow these guides to use the external infrared lamp effectively:

Keep at least 1 meter distance between EYE-02 and external IR lamp
This will minimize the cases when heavy snow flakes or heavy rain are detected as motion.

External IR lamp must not be pointing to the EYE-02 lens
Pictures taken at night would then have a very low contrast. The best solution is to put the external IR light into a place which you cannot see from the camera. It can be slightly behind the camera too (see Picture 3).

Use external IR lamp with the correct wavelength
The EYE-02 lens pass the IR lights with wavelength 850nm only. Before you obtain external IR lamp make sure that it uses the same wavelength. You can buy suitable IR lamp in Jablocom e-shop on www.noabe.shop

Disable the internal IR lamp in the EYE-02
You will avoid the reflection of rays from the glass panel back into the camera (see Picture 4). Connect to your camera via web portal www.jablotool.com and choose Settings, Advanced and then Advanced video settings and unselect the option “Enable built-in infrared lamp”.

Mounting EYE-02 camera into outdoor cover

Loose 2 screws on the back and open the cover.

Loose 4 screws keeping the plate inside the cover.

Slide the plate and remove it from the cover.

For installation without front glass panel

Remove the front glass panel.

The correct mounting is shown on the image below.
