Camera sends SMS about incorrect password
Sometimes you call the camera and it does not respond, you cannot reach its number. Afterwards you received a text message or notification that password is not correct. You have not sent any message to the camera. Is someone not trying to guess your camera password?
You may not be able to reach the camera because it is sending data at that moment. This is technical limitation of cameras communicating on the 2G network. The network provider may inform you in such case that the other number is not available.
- You receive such SMS from the camera because network operators usually send SMS about missed call. The camera also receives such SMS and by default the camera will resend the message to you.
- Network provider may send such SMS from a generic phone number. However, it becomes more often that the SMS looks as if it was sent by the person who was trying to call you. This enables the people to call back quickly, that is why network providers do it this way.
In this second case the camera will understand that it was you who sent the SMS message from your phone and camera will try to process it as an SMS command. It will come to the conclusion that password is not correct because the message does not begin with the password. That is why the camera will send you a message that password is not correct. Certainly it does not mean that someone is trying to guess your camera password.
You can agree with your network provider that they do not send information about missed calls to your camera. It is usual that you can change this setting yourself on the website of the operator. Or you can call the operator´s help line.
If it is not difficult for you we recommend switching OFF all such SMS messages as prevention.
