Protecting monuments and historical objects

Only in last two months the thieves caused the damage in a value of 3.000 EUR.

The complex in Bánska Štiavnica in Slovakia comprising of three churches, nineteen chapels and sculpture of Virgin Mary got to the list of the 100 most endangered world’s distinguished monuments due to its disconsolate state. The local authority for maintenance of historical monuments took the responsibility into their hands, started to collect funds and the reconstruction begun.

“After ten days of waiting, we got a MMS at night with the notification that an unauthorized person entered the monitored area.”

The Banskoštiavnická Calvary is a Slovak cultural jewel whose state was slowly deteriorating due to lack of interest and funding in the past communist times. Fortunately the situation started to change in the past few years, when the reconstructions slowly started. But shortly after the reconstruction begun the effort started to be hindered by thieves, when the building controller discovered the copper cables, circuit-breakers and other electro installation parts were missing.

Only in last two months the thieves caused the damage in a value of 3.000 EUR which naturally slowed down the whole pace of reconstruction. Following these events, it was decided to deploy the EYE-02 camera, which would monitor the reconstructured area and inform the relevant contacts in case of intrusion.

“The camera sends a picture once the motion is detected. After ten days of waiting, we got MMS at night with the notification that an unauthorized person entered the monitored area”, says the controller of the Calvary. He did not wait and set forth to the Calvary. He managed to catch the thief before he left, he bound him and waited until the police came. Afterwards, the thief was accused and is waiting for the law suit.

Thanks to wireless communication over mobile technology the camera can be used without need of building any infrastructure. Moreover, it can be operated from the back-up battery for tens of hours without electricity. Thanks to the infrared light, it can take pictures even at night, when the majority of thefts is taking place.
